ZugZug GoT Art Challenge: Lady Stoneheart/Catelyn Stark

“I take no joy in mead nor meat, and song and laughter have become suspicious strangers to me. I am a creature of grief and dust and bitter longings. There is an empty place within me where my heart was once.”
The ZugZug studio organized a new contest, this time themed around Game of Thrones. I decided to participate and take on a character who unfortunately disappeared prematurely from the show. In the books, Catelyn Stark was resurrected after her death and became Lady Stoneheart, a living dead obsessed with avenging her loved ones. I decided not to base my work on the appearance of Michelle Fairley, the actress who played Lady Catelyn in the show, but developed my concept from scratch, incorporating recognizable elements of her image.
Furthermore, this model is executed in a style previously unfamiliar to me – hand-painted texturing. All the information and differences in materials are not physical reflections or height differences – it's all painted on top of the model, requiring no normal maps, metallics, or anything else. It's an interesting technique, and I really enjoyed working with it.
